RE: [bamboo-plantations] New member nursery establishment

Gigantis Bamboo plantation Hi!

Haiti, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and the Bahamas are all on the south side of the Tropic of Cancer. Species of Bambusa, Dendrocalamus and Schizostachyum genera are growing successfully in the four countries of the South Pacific, but only a few species of Bambusa were seen in the Bahamas. I was able to successfully establish bamboo gardens in Samoa, and Vanuatu. Papua New Guinea already had a very nice bamboo garden. I imported some ornamental species of Phyllostachys into Vanuatu, and they did very well.

Hence, I have a very strong feeling that tropical species of bamboos will grow successfully in the climate of Haiti as well.

Hi,That will be a great idea targeting bilateral objectives upon implementing different bamboo species plantations across such a landscape. However, i would like to tell you you should be able to be sure of the knowledge and skill of propagation of bamboo species with new a new environment as it will be very difficult for the bamboo species to establish in a new environment. So first, you better study thoroughly the ecological, physiological requirments of the bamboo species you selected.Wish you good luck.Tewodros--- On Fri, 19/9/08, gilberto Viala <
