Do you already know the publication of Linda Garland about the Vertical Soak
Diffusion
for Bamboo Conservation?
http://www.bambooman.com.au/bambootreatment/ebf.php
The method of Linda Garland seems ideal for little bamboo projects in rural
environment.
I assume that you can understand Portuguese, since you are planning a bamboo
project together with the population of a Southern Mozambican village.
Therefore I would like to advise you the publication of Raphael Moras de
Vasconcellos:
http://www.permear.org.br/pastas/documentos/permacultor4/CartilhaMoveisINBAM
BU.pdf
Her you can learn not only very much about bamboo processing, but also the
technical terms in the Portuguese language, which are necessary to
communicate with the Mozambican population.
You also could become a member of the grupo bambu brasil:
http://www.bambubrasileiro.com/grupo/instruc.html
In this email group you can learn very much about economic standard houses,
furniture, and small house and kitchen utilities. Almost daily interesting
and illustrated proposals are made.
Regards,
Raimund

Betreff: [bamboo-plantations] Plantation of Asian (and South American?)
Bamboo in the South of Mozambique
Hi,
together with the population of o Southern Mozambican village, a group
of German voluntaries wants to begin a bamboo project in this region.
We want to forest several bamboo species, including Asian (and South
American?) species in a kind of pilot project. Laterthen, we want to
begin a project in the North of Mozambique, near the Tanzanian border.
The aim of the pilot project is to manufacture buiding material for
economic standard houses, furniture, and small house and kitchen
utilities. For this, we want to forest bamboo of different qualities
in an economic way. We also want to use bamboo shoots as a nutritient.
Laterthen, after handcraft and nutritional instruction, we want to
install small industrial projects for export articles. The idea is to
help this village in a complete development, including gender
projects, alphabetization, nutritional and sanitary development, etc.
It is not the idea to export bamboo as raw material for industries in
other countries.
My questions are:
Are there systematic experiences with bamboo forestry in Africa ?
In which countries or climatic regions?
Does anybody have experience with the systematic introduction of
bamboo as nutricient and/or medical application in Africa?
Are there currently similar projects in Africa?
A big hug
Michael.
Gibt es in Afrika bereits systematische Erfahrung mit Aufforstung von
Bambus, und wenn ja, in welchen Ländern bzw. Klimazonen? Ist dort
Erfahrung gemacht worden mit systematischer Einführung von
Bambusschösslingen in die Ernährung der Bevölkerung?
