Set in the spectacular valley of San Marcos La Laguna, this introductory
course is perfect for both novices and expert builders alike - discover all
you need to know about working with bamboo as an alternative building
material: from planting your own bamboo, to curing and preservation
techniques, from basic joining and making your own specialized tools through
to combining bamboo with other materials.
The course also features essential components of house-building such as site
selection and preparation, house design for barefoot architects, principles
of natural building, vernacular architecture, and much more.

Added attractions include: swimming in the volcano-rimmed Lake Atitlan -
"the most beautiful lake in the world", trips to bamboo plantations and
mature tropical gardens, volunteering for our host project La Cambalacha,
community-living, hiking, water-sports, ancient Mayan ruins - including the
Mayan winter-solstice ceremonies in Tikal on 21 December (countdown to
2012).
