Learn to build low-cost, ecological buildings using bamboo and
natural
materials.

In support of La Cambalacha, arts education for rural Guatemala:

Set in the spectacular valley of San Marcos La Laguna, this
introductory
course is perfect for both novices and expert builders alike -
discover all
you need to know about working with bamboo as an alternative building
material: from planting your own bamboo, to curing and preservation
techniques, from basic joining and making your own specialized tools
through
to combining bamboo with other materials.

The course also features essential components of house-building such
as site
selection and preparation, house design for barefoot architects,
principles
of natural building, vernacular architecture, and much more.

Added attractions include: swimming in the volcano-rimmed Lake
Atitlan -
"the most beautiful lake in the world", trips to bamboo plantations
and
mature tropical gardens, volunteering for our host project La
Cambalacha,
community-living, hiking, water-sports, ancient Mayan ruins -
including the
Mayan winter-solstice ceremonies in Tikal on 21 December (countdown
to
2012).

N.B. Participants arrive Sunday December 7th and leave Saturday
December
13th

P.S. If you know anyone you think might be interested, then please
forward
this email (inc. printable flyer attachment) - the course is in aid
of and
hosted by a non-profit arts education project called La Cambalacha
that's
well worth a visit in it's own right. Thanks for helping :-)
