[bamboo-plantations] Re: Micropropagation of bamboos

Gigantis Bamboo plantation Hi Henry, thanks for your input on bamboo in a temperate location, I have past experience in growing running bamboos and what you say is accurate to my experience, I've often considered MOSO but am not planning monoculture plantations so would want to have hardwoods in amongst the bamboo and runners would be a high maintainance senario. My land is also very steep and covered in granite boulders. If I get other land at some stage specifically for bamboo then I would most likely go with moso. I would love to see your plantation some time and would also like to know more of your history of the stand and the size of the culms each season, fertalizer regime and water budget I'm pleased to hear that your'e growing a bamboo plantation in the south, Ive not heard of many people doing this down hear.
warm regards Peter.

Hi Peter,
For your interest I have approx, 10 acres of Moso here in the NW of Tassie, just coming into their sixth year. I have trialled many of the tropical clumping species in my micro climate but with little success. They are designed for the tropics. I understand the reluctance to pursue a running species like Moso, that has such a long lead in time, but I have found that it is really the only species worth pursueing on an ecological scale that suits our conditions. I ended up getting my seed from China and was a simple and cheap process. Now its just a wait and see game and at this stage I am happy with its progress, but could have done a lot better if I knew then what I know now.

Cheers Henry
