I am planning to use the vertical soak diffusion method to treat construction bamboo for a house I am going to build here in the
Philippines. According to the information I have read, I can reuse
the Borax & Boric Acid solution several times adjusting the
concentration as it is used. In one article I read it said that
after about 4 cycles the solution would need to be completely
replaced due to the resins from the bamboo contaminating the mixture.
My questions are as follows:
Since most things settle out in water and typically at varying
levels, is there any way for me to store the spent solution in 55
gallon drums and separate the borate solution from the bamboo resin
for reuse in treatment of more bamboo?
If not, how do I dispose of my environmentally unfriendly cocktail?
There aren't typically toxic disposal sites in rural so
called "third world countries".
Lastly, this is my first attempt at designing a house from Bamboo,
so between the expense of building the facility to treat the bamboo
and the probable construction errors and re-do's I will have to make
this is going to be a rather expensive experiment. This really
isn't a question, but I would be happy to take any suggestions
anyone might have out there.
