[bamboo-plantations] Treating Bamboo / Building a bamboo house

Gigantis Bamboo plantation Dear Richard: You might want to contact the Technological University of the Philippines, San Marcelino Street /Ayala Boulevard, Manila [or their branch at Iloilo City, depending upon where you are] and visit their bamboo department. The fishermen in the Cavite City area use bamboo poles in the Cavite Bay to hook their fishing nets. They replace the poles from time to time. These bamboos are treated naturally, and their color also changes to black with the effect of the salt-water.

While working in Vanuatu I used to dispose the used water-chemical-mixture under the ground and cover the ditch.

Prof. Oscar Hidalgo's book , *Bamboo, the Gift of the Gods ? *It could well be the "Bible" for bamboosarios planning to build houses, bridges etc. Although his English translator did not know good Englilsh, it is very clearl and readable. It is loaded with black & white photos and diagams with step by step instructions for building some houses. As I recall, tha book has about 625 pages. You can order a copy from him in English or Spanish, I think, I am sure it is rather expensive, including the shipment from Colombia, S.
