I can feel and understand your situation after spending 20 years and eventually have 500,000 bamboo poles. ready to be disposed and dreaming to be a sustainable NTFP resource. To me , the number of bamboo poles you have is not so alarming, because, in my country the Philippines, we have a government policy that we have an Annual Allowable Cut (AAC) . In one province near to my hometown, the province is only allowed to cut 10 million bamboo poles; 41%Schizoztachyum lumampao( Buho) and the remaining percentage is distributed to our other four species as follows: S. fenixii (Puser) S. diffusum ( Bikal) , B.blumeana (Tinik) and D.merrilianus (Bayog) and other species of bamboo with commercial value. I believe also, that in your mind and the professional advises of the people whom you trust, you have listed important products of bamboo with market driven demand and with commercial value. However, we all know that to fully utilize bamboo has complexity in
its operation and production of products like China has been doing for more than two decades now. Aside form that , it needs relatively big capital investments as we have seen in China which they can do because of the government policies they have on bamboo and the full support of their national government and other leading institutions that cater to the development of their bamboo sector. Moreover, their multi-lateral type of utilizing bamboo is so efficient that tends to reduce the production cost ad the price of their products in the global and local markets. In reality, we can not compete in the magnitude of their production and their existing bamboo plantations. But, there are also products of the Chinese people on bamboo with low investments like the production of toothpicks and bamboo sticks(skewers). Since, at this time you don't have the multi-lateral type of system in your country, same as we are in my country, expect that during the
production period of these products,. you will have more than 40% of waste materials. But these wastes materials can be used in the production of charcoal , as what Mr. Lakshamana had said and others will be used as pulp for paper making and as a source of energy to treat your bamboo poles and other main bamboo products (toothpicks and bamboo skewers)
As a bamboo sculptor and bamboo product designer, you can sell it as bamboo pole which will be used as an interior decors ( functional and non- functional) of the middle class and upper class of the society locally and internationally. I can design and produce a prototype for you. Since, bamboo is being recognized and accepted in the developed and developing countries, specially the affluent ones with beautiful houses, condominiums and offices/buildings ( the concept of "not a poor man's timber").
The design of the bamboo poles as a piece of arts/crafts will not be as bamboo pole per se, but, we will add a material component that the overall design will fit in any form of houses of the rich and famous- include also the middle class as I have said.
Another product I can suggest, as your corporate social responsibility (CRS) is to produce school desk for school children in rural and urban areas of your country. I can provide you also a design for that. But expect that this kind of product will entail machineries and equipments to produce including skilled people.
All for now, feel free to communicate. God Bless!

Dear Mr.Muddasar,
Glad to know that
you are in the bamboo line for the past 20 years, and you have 50.000 bamboos
on hand today. My priorities will be to use it in the furniture and building
sectors.
Without a large investment you can treat bamboo chemically and use it to make
simple chairs and tables in combination with other materials.Excess material can
also be sold in the market at a reasonable price.
Activated bamboo charcoal also can be considered. How are the chances of good
grade apple baskets.
Yours sincerely,
a.c.lakshmana
