[bamboo-plantations] Re: successes and failures in South Austin

Gigantis Bamboo plantation

Hi Joe,

Although I have had some success with planting cold-hardly, wind tolerant bamboo in northern Nevada, it is my experience that cold hardy, wind tolerant clumping bamboo are few in number, particularly if you are wanting the taller forest type. I have seen beautiful tall bamboo in Needmore, Indiana and along roadways as far north as Rhode Island, but they were not clumpers.

Google cold-hardy bamboo, especially the non-clumping type, and see what you might like.  Also, before you plant these non-clumpers become very good friends with your neighbors and the local concrete ready-mix supply company so you can pour a trench around the area you plant these in.

Hope this helps and best of luck.
