no i do not.  i am a novice, but i like the idea of building with bamboo.   dimensioned bamboo rafters on top of rammed earth walls is a cheap alternative, though not as quick.

panels that can be used for making a hexayurt, or some similar structure that would require little technical know how to join and set up.   use common joints like a dovetail, etc. and the structure would be sturdy, low cost and durable. panels could be easily transported.   a shipping container could house a large number of emergency structures.    cliff

Bambuzeros

Very good idea. Lets work on it. An international force constructing in bamboo for natural disasters!!! We need projetcs, peopel and tecnology. And at least 400 pieces already done for emergencies. Lets work on it. We have bamboo here in Brazil and some people.

sounds pretty cool to me there should definately be a world awareness of the need for bamboo as emergency shelters for many reason, shelters that can be built fast and cheap enough to save lives.  Low tech enough to construct fast and used with canvas or vinyls keep people from dying in the rain when it is not a good idea to sleep indoors during aftershocks.  I was hoping that the "NGO" INBAR would have helped with their expertise during the earthquake in Sechuan but they didn't I think at the time they thought it would be too experimental.  The bamboo competition around that time had several solutions using bamboo for emergency shelter it is such a "NO BRAINER" .  Lets get this going for the next eathquake/disaster.
P.S. I heard that 4 years later most of the Japanese who had lost their houses in the earthquake and sunami are still in temporary shelters how cool it would have been if they were at least in nice bamboo ones all this time, lets get ready for the next one, david

Hola bambooseros...I tried to get some people to work on the Haiti quake, but didn't get it together then, so now we are several years late with our "flat pack" houses...I can design them to seismic zone 4 right now, but would like to exceed that with bamboo panels that haven't been made yet in sufficient quantities...I would like to hear from people in the region that are willing to work on the project....of course, funding is always the problem, but if anyone wants to join in a new venture that will always be necessary, for natural or man made disaster relief housing, let me know what you can do...we need people with computer  skills to develop a compelling website and to get crown funding etc.
we need technical people to build the panels, and NGO contacts for logistics and deployment...It is inevitable that there will be earthquakes and storms, and Bamboo structures based upon laminated panels can be as strong as steel and a lot more eco sustainable...there is a need to have several deswigns for specific purposes, like hospitals and schools that can be quickly erected and last long term...why waste time with portable tents when we could have substantial buildings that can be erected with unskilled labor available at the site?  This is a real opportunity to do good and make a living for a lot of us....So, what can I do to get some help for the Sherpas?  Who has a factory that can make plyboo?  I want to use "smashed' bamboo, not veneers...also want to make bamboo tension tendons from twisted fiber, to use in concrete for thin roofing panels....this is low tech stuff, so where are our Indian entrepreneurs on this sort of thing?
Peace and love, Rob
