one could use coated blades....
 
Also, sounds as if oil silica content might be a determining factor for the use of the bamboo crop.
 
Although silica is a useful and valuable nutrient  don't know anything about silica harvesting from soils (and then one would plan a two product system).
 
Did you have heating problems with the blades also ? I'm wondering if cooler blades would last longer.

In our experience with chipping bamboo, was NOT the fibers, but the High percent of Silica within the bamboo (like sand?), the just destroyed a set of cutter blades in one day,  (A commercial Tree Chipper)..

As far as I know theJoao Santos Group still harvest the B. vulgaris mannually.
They cut down completely all the clump every 24-30 months of growth.
They are also looking for a harvesting machine that can be suitable for bamboo, but up to now there is no machine that performed in a acceptable way.

If someone has more information about...
