[bamboo-plantations] Bamboo Field School

Gigantis Bamboo plantation In the new issue of the Bulletin of the Bamboo Society of Australia I read with interest an account of a Bamboo Field School (put together by US-AID, Sahabat Bamboo & EBF) offered to local people in Central Java.  Mention was made of using goat manure and "even unrefined salt" to fertilize bamboo clumps.  A picture shows "prepared goat manure" being poured into a freshly cut stump "to provide nutrients to next year's shoots and to decay the stump in a disease-free manner, making room for new growth."  Would anyone care to comment on the efficacy of these practices?  Are they commonplace in Indonesia or Australia?  I like the idea of getting rid of stumps after harvesting but hesitate to try it without some feedback.  Thanks.
