Hi Bobby,sorry Ive not got back to you sooner I've been away from work and this computor. I've got most of my seeds from ebay ( bamboo seed) most comes from a German seed co. This suited me fine as I only wanted small quantities, some seed has good germination rates and some is useless. There is also a company call B&T WORLD seeds who offer bamboo seed but I have not purchased from them ( they have a wholesale and retail section ). The seeds I purchased got into Australia via post just fine , our local customs department seem O.K. they often open the letter and check, I've only had one batch ( two seeds ) confiscated, and was fine as that specie is available locally. I purchased 250 grams of Dendrocalamus calostachys from an indian seed company which had zero germination. There are also seed suppliers in china that sound like a good possibility if you are interested in Phyllostachys "moso" . You may be able to purchase invitro plants from India ( they would be clean in vitro ). Good luck with your endevours Bobby warm regards Peter J.

Please excuse the lack of correct terms: I have tried to grow some using cut culms laid horizontally under +- 1 cm of soil. Some success but not brilliant. What is this method called?

Hi Luiz, I have been learning and practicing tissue culture with bamboo here in Melbourne Australia with thoughts of producing bamboo for forest projects. I am having some good success at early stages starting with seed and then going on to multiplication stage and am yet to change media for root development and then moving plants to hot house and then outside world. I am using tropical clumping bamboo that is available from seed as practice and am then wanting to experiment with taking material from
ex- plant material when it is in active growth later in our Summer ( February- March). I have found it pretty easy to get plants going from seed when the seed is Viable and cleanable but have not had much of a go with ex-plants ( the few I tried were not vigorously growing and just sat there doing nothing, others I didn't succeed with getting them clean and produced fabulous moulds etc) I'd be interested to hear how you go.
