Regarding the Bambusa lako, resist the urge to check for roots. I suggest you wait until you see roots emerge from their container or until shoots develop into canes.
Also, be mindful that Oct to early Dec is not a long time in terms of bamboo propagation. I have had some cuttings (B.ventricosa, B.balcooa) finally strike after one year in propagating medium but most tend to rot well inside that period. Keep in mind that even a lowly 5% success rate for cuttings may be cause for great celebration with some recalcitrant species, and even batches of some of the 'easy' to propagate species may fail for no apparent reason.
This variability, and the continuing challenge to learn the secrets of the enigmatic bamboo plant, is what keeps many of us keen.
